The rise of the Benign Information Dictators revisited

The term “Data is the new oil” is being bandied about lately. I actually wrote that term all ready in 2009 in my blog post for Bonnier R&D : Big Tech. Erich Hugo on the rise of the benign information dictators.

“And this leads us to the web and the rise of the benign information dictators. The ones who blind us with colorful logos and funky web 2.0 names. They control the digital oil of the 21st century. They control the information flow, and innovation is at their mercy.”

Well if that is the case we need to do everything in our power to prevent that our beloved Internet/Telecoms/Mobile industry should emulate the car industry in any form.

The car industry has prevented the evolution of the vehicle for over a 100 years and thereby left us with an immense environmental bill that our children will need to pay. All to protect the outdated combustion engine and its supporting businesses.

We cannot allow that the Internet industry becomes regulated by the corporates , governmental (Here is looking at you NSA) or otherwise.

We cannot have profit-at-all costs mantras impeding on innovation. So if you see any possibility to disrupt the status quo in the Internet Industry, DO IT before its too late.

Support Neelie Kroes in the EU fighting for YOUR rights @NeelieKroesEU. She is banging down doors for us the internet users of Europe

Support insane ventures like Phonebloks

“Show the world we want a phone worth keeping! #phonebloks

From a hardware P.O.V. this is NOT insane and extremely possible.

Never before have we had the opportunities like we have today to do right. Its just a question of choice
